Listening to the Horse's Body

October 2016 by Alex Mullarky

An Interview with Cat Walker

Ollie, affectionately nicknamed Ollivander, paws at the arena surface and nudges his owner, equine bodyworker Cat Walker. He may not realise it, but we’re discussing how lucky he is to be alive. “His number was up,” Cat puts it bluntly. “He was meant to be a dissection horse.”

Two years ago, Cat suffered a devastating loss when Jack, the horse she refers to as her best friend, passed away. She had already begun a research project into a congenital malformation in the cervical spine that was the root of a previous horse’s troubles. After Jack’s death, her suspicions were confirmed - he was suffering from the same malformation. It was devastating.
