Horses have been part of policing in Victoria since 1836. Today, despite the advent of high-tech law enforcement involving drones and advanced software, the Mounted Branch of Victoria Police continues to play an integral role in the organisation - and Sergeant Michelle Turner believes technology will never replace police horses.

The grey sky is threatening rain and gusty winds have buffeted my little car down the freeway on my way to the Mounted Branch located in Attwood, near the Melbourne Airport. These facilities have been home to the branch for 18 months now, following a relocation from the previous stables on St Kilda Road in South Melbourne.
