They Couldn't Wait to Return

April 2016 by Bert Hartog, Horse Riding Coach

Every so often, we organise a special night for our students to show off their skills to the public and friends. One of the most popular performance is the quadrille, ridden by eight riders.

It is quite a skill to perform movements in a group, especially when most of them are recreational riders. The extra skill starts with riding in pairs. However, once riders realise that riding very close together - with the stirrup irons clicking - horses find support in each other. Just riding in pairs is already interesting; in the corners, the outside rider must ride a little faster and the inside a little slower for both of them to come out together.
